The Whitby Report – August 26, 2019

Today is Monday, August 26, 2019. I am your host Stone and this is The Whitby Report. We made it back from our east coast road trip and we’re ready to delve into our news once again!

Weather
It’s currently 23°C (feeling like 27°C). The temperatures for the rest of the day will cool slightly and there is only a 20% chance of rain. Again, get the kids out there; this is the last day full week before school is back in session.

I will also say that, out east, there was a nice cool breeze everywhere we went. Back home, the heat has a muggy pervasiveness that just does not go away.

Local News
Whitby Man Upset About Late Fee on Tax Bill. The address was changed by the town nearly 20 years ago and since the regular postal carrier has retired, the new one did not deliver the mail since the address was incorrect. The town has said the owner should have notified the town of the address change, even though it was the town itself that initiated the change.

Stone’s Take
So, yeah. Previously the road was “Rural Road 1”, however, 20 years ago it got changed to ### Townline 1 (number withheld) BY THE TOWN. So the home owner needs to notify the town that the town changed his address? Sure this guy has been paying his taxes for years and should know when the bills come, however, in this particular case, since the town was the one that initiated the change they should have updated THEIR mailing address for the owner, instead of using the old one.

In this case, the town needs to waive the fee as it’s an error initiated on their end.
