The Whitby Report – August 28, 2019

Today is Wednesday, August 28, 2019. I am your host Stone and this is The Whitby Report.

Weather
It’s been an amazing day. No rain is projected for the rest of the week and the temperatures are supposed to be in the mid-twenties. This is excellent weather for the last week of summer break. Right now we’re at 26°, feeling like 30°C, which is our high for the day.

Local News
Bonfire Damages Whitby’s Park of Reflection: Despite New Security Measures, Memorial Park Still Suffering Vandalism. Over the weekend, folks came by the park, disabled the cameras and had themselves a little campfire. The park is supposed to be an aid for uniformed personnel suffering from PTSD, however, since the traffic is relatively low in the park, things like this happen.

Stone’s Take
I love myself a good bonfire. I do. I really wish Whitby would change their backyard campfire by-laws. Despite desperately wanting my own campfires, I’m not about to head out to a park and do it, let alone a memorial or an area dedicated to PTSD therapies. These bozos had the fire right on the stones. Sure that’s going to help control the fire but it is going to deface the stones and then my tax dollars go to pay for fixing that.

I will admit I’ve never heard of this park before. I may have to stop by there during the day and see the area for myself.
