The Whitby Report – August 30, 2019

Today is Friday, August 30, 2019. I am your host Stone and this is The Whitby Report.

Weather
As always we start with the weather. They did say we were supposed to get some showers in the afternoon. Wrong. It was a beautiful day and I sent the kids outside to go play. Today is also the last regular weekday before the kids go back to school. YAY! Tuesday can not come fast enough.

Wait, this was about weather. Sorry! We’re currently sitting here at 23°C and there is no rain in sight!

News
Whitby Students Publish Book on Managing Millennial and Gen Z Employees. This is a very short article with zero links to anything. They quote a book title in the article.

Stone’s Take
So, I feel like this book is going to be as popular as this article is long. I’m sure there are some great insights in there, however, these two scream “stereotypical” to me. I personally know folks in both of those age groups that are not stereotypical and know that THEY need to conform to the world around them. In most cases, businesses are not going to treat people from these generations any differently than others, nor should they.

I have not read this book at all, nor do I have a desire to, as I’m not a complete match for their target demographic. On the other hand, they are doing exactly what I’ve seen my acquaintances do; they are going out and doing something. I respect that and wish them the best of luck!
