The Whitby Report – September 6, 2019

Today is Friday, September 6, 2019. I am your host Stone and this is The Whitby Report.

Weather
It started out nice. Carrie and I got to our errands: we’re building a raised garden. It was beautiful out, mainly sunny with a bit of cloud. We picked up some extra seeds for some vegetables and spices that are considered “fast growers”. We got out to the backyard and started to work on the garden box; sure enough, that’s when it starts raining.

Local News
Apparently late last night the police were chasing a stolen pickup. Here’s a summarized video from the police helicopter chasing the pickup. They eventually had to use a spike belt to blow out the guy’s tires and force him to a stop.

Why is this Whitby news? Apparently the chase started in the Kawarthas (a place I really want to move to), came through Bowmanville and then through our nice little quiet Town of Whitby. I’ll blame being so close to Toronto as having a bad influence around. Damn you, Toronto. Damn you. I jest. I’m a Toronto-boy through-and-through; I love Toronto, just need to get rid of the stupid gun play.

Why bring up gun play? The guy that stole the truck had a loaded gun in the vehicle.

How did they police know where to find him? A “suspicious vehicle” was called in at a trailer park. Apparently that’s enough to bring in a couple cop cars AND A HELICOPTER. Yikes. Good thing there wasn’t gangs shooting at each other and stuff, they might have sent in the army.

Maybe Toronto needs to call in the army again? If we did, I don’t think people would laugh at us the same way as they did during the blizzard of ’99.
